I began as assistant teacher for two second grade classrooms. The teachers I worked with had over 50 years of combined experience and passed their passion for Catholic education on to me. I received my own self-contained fifth grade classroom the next year, and remained in that position for three years. Three-and-a-half years with second graders followed. Each year my curriculum embraces 8 subject areas in a self-contained environment of up to 29 students and includes exceptional, grade-level and special needs learners. My part-time assistant teacher and I worked hard to provide adequate, loving differentiation and accommodations within our classroom so each student feels challenged and accomplished. Currently, to be closer to my two children under the age of 6, I work part time as a freelance writer.
I am a high energy, hands-on, creative mom, with a belief that knowledge is best retained through a combination of kinesthetic, audio and visual mediums. I use color, foldables, shapes, movement, and choral participation in addition to traditional text resources to maximize students' experience of a subject matter. I try to engage my learners by sharing the works of popular/famed artists, innovators and explorers - and encouraging their own share time with one another. Independence is a goal, with whole and small group and partner-based learning as paths leading to it.
Yet to be added
FSU graduate with a degree in creative writing and minors in communications and religion. Character education and Catholic principals are important to me; I enjoy the privilege of praying with and for my students, of inspiring them to seek deeper relationships with Christ, who is present in everyone around them.
Family comes first - I love my husband, son and daughters so much! They challenge me daily to discover and live the best version of myself. Faith, fitness and a healthy lifestyle are top priorities, though I do have a weakness for baking, books -reading and authoring, and getting/keeping spaces organized in fun, inventive ways.
