I put this as a literacy station to incorporate science into our literacy time. I put all the materials in the box and let the students predict and then try to shine the light threw each item. Then they can write about their shadow.
I have cards that show step by step illustrations of different pictures. My students select one of those cards and try to follow the drawing directions the best they can. Then they sound out the word and label each drawing.
I use this after students have been introduced to shapes. They go around the room and try to find an object in the room that is the same as one of the shapes on the paper. Once they find it they do their best to draw the shape in the correct column.
