Kathryn Kosmider, of Kosmik teaching, is a language acquisition nerd who wants to make teaching and learning fun and easy for students AND teachers. Based in Madrid, Kathryn has taught English and Spanish since 2012 in public, charter, and private schools across the US and Spain. She has worked for the US State Department and Spanish Ministry of Education as a language and culture expert. She has written curriculum for Teach for America, HOOP Peru, and Avenues Online and facilitated teacher trainings for teachers across the US and Madrid.
Materials from Kosmik Teaching are a happy hybrid between TPRS® and Comprehensible Input that sometimes connect with "traditional" language instruction. In the classroom, Kathryn relies on storytelling and building connections with students to prepare materials based on their interests and goals.
Teach for America Corps Member, Phoenix 2012 West Valley Impact Grant, 2013 KIPP Community Grant, 2017 US State Department Language and Culture Grant Recipient, 2018 UCETAM Culture and Language Grant Recipient, 2018, 2019 Spain Ministry of Education Grant Recipient, 2020, 2021
Kathryn has a degree in Adolescent Spanish Education and a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Always learning, she attends and leads workshops about language acquisition, focusing on making materials accessible and making learning engaging and fun.
If you’re looking for strategies to make your teaching life easier, you’re in the right place. Kathryn has worked with first-year teachers as a coach since 2015 and has trained some of the best teachers in Washington DC and Madrid. Outside of teaching, Kathryn practices yoga and takes long walks with her dog, Cuquín.
