I started out teaching elementary school at an international school in Southeast Asia. Years later, I jumped at the opportunity to train and teach rural English teachers in Western teaching methods. Traveling to the backside of nowhere was always an exciting adventure, but my students always bested me with their travel tales (one once arriving via tractor!). I then taught English at a vocational school in the foothills of the Himalayas. After earning my master's degree, I worked for a number of years training new hires for diverse companies - from an insurance company to a restaurant kitchen.
I believe that truth and knowledge have power, and I love witnessing the transformation that happens in the lives of my students as they learn. I keep students engaged by drawing out what they already know, and building on their previous knowledge and experiences. In my classroom, we ask hard questions, laugh a lot, and keep things practical and down to earth. I believe the best teaching helps my students become more of who they truly are, who they were meant to be.
