I currently teach 4th and 5th grades. Before this, I worked in an alternative high school serving students who had previously dropped out or were credit deficient. In this program, I led a career preparation class preparing students for the workplace.
With so many standards, it sometimes can be difficult to bring creativity and imagination into the classroom. Fostering these traits in my students is a priority of mine. I enjoy finding ways to teach to the standards using interactive, outside of the box activities.
Every single time a student who has been struggling catches on to a concept and beams with pride. These are the moments I consider honors or awards. Teaching is a difficult, complex job and these moments remind us of why we do it!
