In 1994 I opened a daycare in my home. Within the next few years as my daughters entered school I started working with the Girl Scouts as a troop leader. One troop became two, and then 3. When an opening came up at a local preschool I jumped at the chance and have not looked back. I love working with children and exposing them to new experiences. My career is very rewarding and meaningful to me on many levels. I look forward to each new group of children and know I am playing a big role in fostering that love and quest for knowledge. In 2015 I became a director/teacher for a new preschool!
I enjoy a hands on teaching style. I know I learn best by doing, trying and failing. I encourage the children to try their best, even if it means the end result does not turn out like they planned. Trial and error and practice makes perfect are two theories I subscribe too. I also feel that a deep relationship with the individual child is key.
I have earned the title Excellence In Action (equivalent to employee of the year) twice during my current employment as well as Safety awards. I have served on the boards of The Stan and Carolyn Little Conference, and the Week of the Young Child Event for the previous 5 years.
I currently hold a Master Teacher Certificate in the State of California. I am also a Mentor Teacher through the state, and enjoy having future Early Childhood teachers complete their student teaching hours and assignments in my class. Being a Mentor teacher is a great way to surround myself with highly educated professionals while keeping me current on new developments and research in the field of education.
I am blessed to be married to my high school sweetheart (30 years now). We have two beautiful daughters, both of whom are in college. I have grown to think of my job as a preschool teacher not only a job, but it is my hobby, and my community service too. I spend many hours each week searching for the next perfect activity or lesson plan. Hours researching new methods, and even though the I spend hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars on my class each year I would probably do this job for much less than I am being paid. I cannot think of a more rewarding place to be than a room full of preschoolers!
