In 19 years in PWCS, I have taught creative writing, English 9, 10, 11 (night school), Pre-AP, ELL, team taught, and regular.
It is important for me to connect the literature to something the students can relate to such as podcasts or art. I break up my classes into three parts - part one includes a rotation of grammar, vocabulary, and writing. Part two focuses on the lit and the finally third includes activity such as review games, group work, lit analysis, podcasts, or video clips.
Taught creative writing at GMU through the NOVA Writing Project to young students and teachers.
Undergrad at JMU (1989) and masters at GMU (1999).
My wife is Spanish and we spend our summers there. I also have two children.
