TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello everyone! I am a high school English literature and writing teacher and just within my initial years as a beginning teacher, I taught three different grade levels (9th, 10th, and 12th). I've also taught all types of students, including honors, special education, and AP, sometimes all in the same semester! Because of this, I spend a lot of my time outside of the classroom working on ways to differentiate among my students to provide them with the best educational experience possible.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Like many of my students, I learn in a variety of different ways. I really enjoy taking the time to incorporate different teaching styles into my lesson plans. I have an inkling that I'll never be a teacher complacent in their units! I really enjoy trying out new technologies and making connections between content material and the 21st century that the kids are living in. Many of my materials will incorporate graphics, pop culture references, Youtube links, and unique layouts, etc. These are all used to grab the students' attention and guide them to a real-world use for what they're learning in school.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The majority of my honors and awards are from the students themselves. Being told the only reason they come to school is because they didn't want to miss my class, that they never understood a concept till my class, being routinely asked by previous students for recommendation letters or to edit valedictorian speeches. Having "Keep it Gangsta Mrs. P!" written on my board at the end of the year. Students thanking me for helping them to learn to love reading again. I don't have medals for these but they are worth more than any type of award I've ever received!
