I've taught 1st grade since 2008 and truly feel like it is the best grade ever! I have also helped to develop county curriculum and enjoy connecting with other teachers through professional development presentations (and of course social media).
I believe that sometimes kids just need to be kids and by making learning fun (while also meeting the standards), it's a win win situation! I love creating activities that combine purposeful play with a little bit of simple/inexpensive creativity in order to help all of my students learn. I seem to be a magnet for the kids who need more than just academic support and have a special place in my heart for students with special needs. I believe in the power of choice, flexible seating, and building a child's confidence to help them learn and grow. I am also a proud children's book hoarder, colorful pen collector, and organizing queen!
