I have taught English and drama related subjects to students 9-12 since 1998. I especially focused on the creative arts, whether it's within writing, speaking, or thinking. I ran a drama program as a technical director where I helped students produce over 25 productions. I cooperatively ran the school-wide creative magazine that highlighted student writing, artwork and photography. As a high school teacher, I taught college credit classes. Currently, I am an English lecturer at a Wisconsin college.
I am pro-student and open-minded. I teach to each student, no matter his or her level. I am very laid back and enjoy a teaching atmosphere where students are comfortable. I thrive on individual interaction, whether the students like it or not. I love a challenge, whether it is a student wanting more or a student not willing to participate. All-in-all, I see each student as a being full of potential. My job is to help him or her achieve.
I was awarded high school "Teacher of the Year" at my school district in 2009. I was honored with five "senior bells." This is special recognition by seniors during their graduation ceremony. The students write a speech and are chosen to recite it at graduation. An actual bell is given.
