TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught middle and high school Language Arts and English successfully in Indiana for four years. In the summer of 2009 Austin, Texas became my new and permanent home when I began teaching and tutoring at a Korean learning center part-time. During my first year in Austin, I taught at a private Christian school that closed due to financial mismanagement. Since then I continue working with students at the learning center and as a resource English teacher at public schools in the area.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am authoritative. I exhibit a warm and nurturing attitude toward my students and expresses genuine interest and affection. My classroom abounds with praise and encouragement. I often write comments on homework and offer positive remarks to students. I encourage self-reliant and socially competent behavior and foster higher achievement motivation. Often, I will guide my students through a project, rather than lead them.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Member of Sigma Tau Delta. Had several poems published in three different editions of the Taylor University Literary Journal, Parnasus. Taught and mentored a student who won the Scholastic American Voice award for his poetry in 2007.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt from 2nd through 12th grades. I graduated with a 3.66 (unweighted average) and took 6 AP classes: US History, European, Physics, Calculus, English Composition and English Language. I attended Taylor University in Upland, IN. I graduated with a 3.8, magna cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Science in English Education. I was on the Dean's List all four years and assisted in the Language Media Lab for students learning foreign languages, as well as, tutoring my peers in a variety of subjects. Also, I attended Western Governors University--Texas (WGU-Texas). I earned a Masters of Education in Instructional Design in June 2015. I researched effective methods of teaching short answer response and persuasive writing to special education and ELL populations.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I spent 14 years of my life in Alexandria, Egypt. I love teaching in a multicultural environment as I have learned to appreciate different cultures throughout my life. Reading, writing, and spending time with people in a relaxed atmosphere occupy my free-time.
