TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching in the elementary school setting has been a love of mine for more years than I wish to count! I have enjoyed teaching students in the classroom setting beginning at the pre-school years all the way through fifth grade. Yet, I become most animated and energized when I am fostering the love of reading in my students of all ages!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have been regarded by other educators as a highly energetic reading teacher who creates an educational atmosphere that encompasses self worth, individuality, creativity and intellectual development within my students. In doing so, I believe that teaching reading utilizing a balanced literacy approach gives each student the opportunity to develop their strengths and strengthen their weaknesses thus becoming confident, motivated and successful readers.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Received “Time to Care” Award, WRDW-TV, Augusta, Georgia. Received “A+ for Teachers” Award, KCNC-TV, Denver, Colorado. Nominated for Disney’s “Teacher of the Year.” Selected as a Summer Fellow in the tenth annual Northern Virginia Writing Project. Raised five wonderfully literate children!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education- Wheelock College • Certificate in Early Reading Instruction- University of Colorado at Colorado Springs • Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction- Lesley University

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

From an educational standpoint, I have been blessed to have lived in as many different regions of the United States as I have and I have learned a great deal from the amazing educators that I have met along the way. Thank you Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia; Cherry Creek Public School, Colorado, Columbia County Public Schools, Georgia and Boston, MA! You will always be a part of my teaching!
