I have taught majority of my career in an urban environment in Dayton, Ohio. My first year of teaching was at a charter school specializing in special needs kids grades K-8. Currently I am employed as a Dayton Public Schools high school teacher in the Social Studies Department. I currently serve as the head of the department at Belmont High School. Over the course of my career I have taught the subjects of American History, Government, World History, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Practical Law, and Current Global Events. In addition I have worked at the district level and school level in writing curriculum for all Social Studies courses of the district aligning the courses to the Ohio Department of Education Academic Standards and the Common Core Standards.
As a high school teacher in an urban environment I integrate technology and many hands on activities to showcase the multiple intelligences of my students assessing their knowledge gained aside from the normal pen and paper test. By using project based learning and the Common Core Standards I formally assess my students' knowledge while adding significance to the material and topics presented.
