I have experience teaching music to kids from pre-k all the way to high school, but my recent focus has been on secondary grades. I have taught choir and orchestra, but my emphasis is on vocal music. I have experience teaching in private schoo, public school, and as a church choir director.
I believe there are many factors that come together to engage a student in learning. My favorite style is interdisciplinary, so that students are able to realize that music does include all subject areas! I believe in teaching the basics so that students can discover more profound things about the art and science of musicianship. I also believe in a multicultural teaching environment, and music lends itself well to that. By studying other cultures we are able to discover universal truths that teach us about who we are and who we wan tto become.
Nominated for Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year.
It took me a while to figure out what my calling was in life, so I studied many things: music education, theater arts, psychology, communications, and whole host of other disciplines, only to realize that I was back where I started, the place where my passions and my skills come together beautifully, like in a Tallis madrigal. I graduated with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and am currently pursuing my M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction.
I am originally from Venezuela, something I am very proud of!
