I have been a Spanish teacher for 9 years in one of the most impoverished schools in our county. I love what I do, see it as a profession and am inspired daily by the students I teach and the staff I work with. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher, a board member for WAFLT, the secretary for AATSP Juan de Fuca, a member of TU253 and a National Board Ambassador. I also facilitate professional development trainings for world language teachers in my area.
I believe strongly in the need for our students to have a learning environment that mimics how we all acquired our first language, through high quantities of input and trial and error with output. I believe the world language classroom should be 100% in the target language, interactive, high quantities of movement, repetition and a strong foundation of community amongst all involved. I use the ACTFL proficiency standards as a bases for assessment and use standards based grading.
