I'm going into my 6th year of teaching high school Spanish and I have enjoyed it every year. There are always opportunities to grow and learn as a teacher. During my time as a teacher, I have taught many different levels of Spanish, which include: Spanish I, Spanish I (PRE-IB), Spanish II, Spanish II (PRE-IB), Spanish III/IV honors, and IB Year 2. My students come from a very diverse population and it has been a pleasure to expose them to another language and culture during their Spanish studies. Contact me at lasecundaria.jac@gmail.com
The Flipped Classroom method has been an exciting endeavor for my students. Each child has a MacBook Air which allows me to explore what the Flipped Classroom method has to offer to my students. The students are digital natives and enjoy the technology driven learning. Lessons are animated through NearPod and EdPuzzle to create an engaging experience for students. NearPod and EdPuzzle allow the personalization to the student learning experience and they receive direct instructions, guided practice, independent practice and interactive speaking activities that make learning a language effective and lasting. Though I love interaction in my classroom, there is still a need for students to answers reading and writing skills in the target language and that is why the use of whiteboards, Promethean board, and worksheets are valuable to student learning.
Being nominated for the school Teacher Feature Award by my students has brought me much joy and pride with each nomination. To know that my classroom is enjoyable and that they are engaged in their learning is truly rewarding.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in the beautiful city of Charleston at Charleston Southern University (Go BUCS!) and have a Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish from Rutgers University. :)
