TEACHING EXPERIENCE

We're a father/daughter duo who have a combined fifteen years of teaching experience! Our primary teaching grades are 4th and 5th, and we've spent our entire teaching careers educating bilingual, ESL, and other underserved and difficult to teach populations. Additionally, we have written 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade elementary curriculum for the State of Texas, and we've taken those skills and used them to write passages and questions for students. Our success is noteworthy. We have administered over 500 state exams to 4th and 5th graders with an average passing rate of 97% in all subjects. Most of these students are native Spanish speakers who are taking the state exams in English and are taught in both languages. We test all of our materials in appropriate grade levels at a variety of schools and among a diverse group of students. Our goal on each passage is to have a passing score of between 70 and 90.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Every student loves to read if they're given the right stories! We write fun and humorous stories with characters kids can relate to. Our rigorous questions promote high-level critical thinking consistent with the Common Core Reading Standards. Our experience tells us that students love to answer difficult questions if they understand the material. We make it a point to ensure that our stories are funny, a little edgy, and most of all, readable. Since the material is geared towards today's student, they tend to race through the stories because they are engaging. The real learning takes place in the thought-provoking questions. Our materials are not designed to replace good instruction. Instead, they should be used as supplementary educational materials. We would be happy to share how we use these stories in cooperative learning groups and how to get the most out of them.
