TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Engineering learning experiences in Spanish, ESL, Immersion, and even Tennis since 1987. From DC Public Schools, to New York City to Long Island and Fairfax County, VA, I have been fortunate to learn from the best and then use my autonomy to design better language learning experiences with the help of my supportive community of stakeholders [colleagues, parents, and kids.] If you want to see my resume, check me out on LinkedIn, I don't want to bore you here. MY TEACHING STYLE

My classes and I participate in 90% PLUS IN THE TARGET LANGUAGE. Therefore, I don't "teach" Spanish. I engineer experiences so my learning communities can communicate about their world IN SPANISH. I seek to truly listen to kids and their parents to get a sense of what is working. If students aren't USING language, they aren't LEARNING language. In my classroom CULTURE is our content. Our CREATIONS are our content. COMMUNICATION is in Spanish 90% of the time or more.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

ACTFL Core Advisor to Video Library, Teaching Foreign Languages K-12, a joint project with WGBH Boston, Annenberg Foundation, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Content Advisor to several videogames for language learning.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I've been speaking Spanish since I was 14 years old when I lived in Mexico City with a great generous family in an exchange program. This rich experience has carried me through my studies at the University of Pittsburgh, George Washington University, Hunter College of the City University of New York, the International Baccalaureate training program at the United Nations International School. From Instituto Cervantes to Advanced Placement training. From ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency training workshops to starting beginning Korean classes to partnering with new language learning and gaming start up companies here and abroad.Believe it or not, I've taught Prekindergarten thru 6th grades, high school grades 9-12 and now I welcome the challenge of teaching MIDDLE SCHOOL IMMERSION classes. Argh! This is my biggest challenge yet! I am a very fortunate language learner.
