I have twenty-five years experience in education. I have taught grades two through eight. I have a unique perspective regarding skill progression across grade levels. My love is the language arts. I hope my lessons will help make teaching reading, writing, and vocabulary skills a joyful experience for you and your students. Painting a picture with words is an art worth learning, a skill worth practicing. Students learn to write by practicing writing, not through doing worksheets! Good luck with your endeavors and enjoy the ride...
My style involves teaching basic writing strategies through a mini-lesson format. After modeling the skill with my own writing or by providing samples from published sources, I get the students down to writing. I would suggest my approach is project based learning. It is very important that students choose topics they are interested in researching and writing about. Choice is a critical element. I also believe strongly in learning "hooks." If we can motivate students to be excited about learning the language arts, our efforts will be more productive!
