I have been teaching for 15 years, 13 of which have been in fifth grade. Most recently I taught a 4/5 combo class and am delighted to do so again next year.
I am an experienced curriculum writer with an emphasis on scientific inquiry and project-based learning.
First and foremost, my students learn that we are a team working toward a common goal: learning! We co-create classroom rules, jobs, and routines. Class meetings are a forum for solving social issues and learning empathy for others. Students know their actions and attitudes impact others.
My lessons emphasize inquiry-based learning, group work, discussion strategies and critical thinking. As an upper grade teacher, I emphasize college readiness through organizational strategies. I also promote hard work and personal responsibility as a means to success.
Educator of the Year, 2020
I attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, earning a BA in Religious Studies, an M.Ed. in Education and a Multiple Subject teaching credential. Recently, I completed my GATE Certification from UCSD Extension.
