I have been teaching kindergarten for 9 years in an urban school, and I can't think of anything I'd love more. I have also spent time teaching overseas during the summer, both at an international school in Okinawa, Japan and at an orphanage and primary school in Kampala, Uganda.
From the beginning of my teaching career, I have been passionate about finding ways to make learning fun. Over the past 9 years, I have learned to do this in a purposeful way to still be meeting standards, including the common core. I love finding ways to incorporate music and movement into our lessons. My goal is to create active learners who are excited to come to school each day.
Yet to be added
I received my undergrad degree in elementary education with an pre-primary emphasis in 2004. In 2012, I finished my master's degree in differentiated instruction. I have additional training in: * International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB - PYP) * National Urban Alliance (NUA) * Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP)
I love travel, photography, and a good cup of coffee. Currently my heart is torn between my kindergarten students here at home, and the orphans in Uganda that I volunteer with during the summer months. I have a blog at merrydays.wordpress.com where I tell stories about traveling, life, and the ridiculous things children say.
