- Professional Educator with 15 years of experience - Former Grade 5 Classroom Teacher - Current Intervention Specialist in South Bend Community School Corporation in South Bend, Indiana - Currently teaching first grade students who are reading below grade level - My instruction is informed by benchmark and ongoing formative assessment data
In my current teaching role, I teach small group guided reading lessons to first grade students. My lessons include taking a running record of my selected student "reader" while the other students are rereading familiar texts from previous lessons, then a word bank, a word study or writing activity, a new book introduction, the reading of a new text with a strategy focus, and a post-reading discussion or activity. I am a firm believer that early reading intervention is key!
