TEACHING EXPERIENCE

A New Jersey native, I graduated college with a degree in graphic design and a passion for education. I moved to Japan to teach English in 2011 where I learned to teach and began using my design skills for my career. In 2014, I moved to Scotland to pursue a degree in primary education. After graduating, I moved to South Carolina to work in education.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love opening the eyes of my students by teaching them about what I have learned abroad. I believe in the growth mindset and that every child as the opportunity to grow and succeed.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My favorite teaching moment is when I was teaching Japanese toddlers at an English immersion school. This one boy came in partway through the year and was behind the others in learning English. The first English words he spoke to me was a whole sentence! It was, "Lauren, when is your birthday?" I was so proud and surprised I almost cried.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have been teaching since 2011 but I have been working with children for many years prior. I have taught children from age 2 up until age 14 but enjoy early childhood the best. I am certified to teach in South Carolina and obtained my teaching degree in Scotland.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love Japan, Japanese, and all things Asia. If there is something specific you are looking for in that area, I would love to help you find or make it! Also, I have a YouTube channel from when I lived in Japan under the username LaurenNIHON. It would be a great resource for Japanese units and for anyone looking to teach over there!
