I have 12 years experience teaching children and 8 years tutoring. I am licensed in Elementary Education, Special Education and ESL.
I like having fun, expanding lessons, and units to include various things making learning fun and in various ways. I like pulling things from different resources and combining them all together to make a unique learning experience.
I have won several grants for my classroom. I have served as a mentor teacher, supervised student teachers, and been part of several learning cadres within my district. I am on a nationwide teacher panel for Scholastic, on an Early Learning Panel for We are Teachers, and member of the NSEA.
I have taught Special Education resource, self contained programs, run group homes and supported apartments for disabled children and adults, taught Kindergarten for 4 years and tutored children 1-1 and small group from grades 1-6 for 8 years. I attended the College of Saint Rose for my Bachelors degree and graduated in 1993. I got my Masters from University of Phoenix Reno in 2008 in Administration. I got my TESOL certification in 2009.
I'm a dedicated teacher who believes that all children can learn and it's up to me to meet where they are at and guide them to where they need to be. I have always taught at Title 1 schools where we had a huge number of transient children, low socioeconomic neighborhoods getting free lunch. Many come into school never being in a classroom before and knowing nothing. I subscribe to many websites, magazines and programs. I attend many trainings to continue learning to be the best I can be for my student population. I think this makes me a better teacher and person.
