TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught music for 14 years. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education degree from East Carolina University. I was a marching pirate! I have received over $10,000 in grants and competition money for NCS Performing Arts Programs. I love to teach music through song, dance, games, technology and playing a variety of instruments.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe music is a vital part of our student's education. Students also gain valuable skills such as self-discipline, self-confidence, cooperative learning, teamwork, how to read music, music history and theory. Many studies have shown that learning to play an instrument helps your brain develop in ways nothing else can. Music performance improves student’s skills in math and language arts as well. It's an excellent place to meet great people and develop lasting friendships.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Started a Band Program. We started with 19 members, now we currently have 95. 10% of the school is in band in only 4 Years! 50% of our 5th Graders joined the band. Our students attend All-District and Honor Bands. Received Bright Ideas Grant for $3,000 for “Wizard of Oz” musical. Received Bright Ideas Grant for $3,000 for Guitars and Xylophones. Received Three Donors Choose Grants for instruments and equipment. Directed a 5th Grade Choir to win Mix 101.5 Choir Competition, $1,000.
