Let me guess, you're frustrated with how peer conferences are working (or should I say NOT working) during your Writer's Workshop? In my district, students are supposed to conference with one another using Six-Traits language to improve their

Need a one-page rubric to quickly assess the 6-traits that is in kid-friendly language? Use this! I staple this to the front of each of my student's pieces of writing when I assess for the 6 traits. This rubric is also simple enough that even a

This is a lesson on how headers and sub-headers help prepare our brains when reading non-fiction text. Sample anchor chart ideas are provided for teacher modeling, and mini-charts are provided as scaffolds for students to record their own thinking.

So you've taught your kiddos about determining importance, but how can they practice this skill? You've probably noticed on my TpT site that I make mini-charts like this for just about all literacy-related learning we do. Kids in our room know that

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught 4th grade for nine years and made the leap to teaching 6th & 7th grade language arts at our middle school this year. I was coached in the Comprehensive Literacy Model which has totally reshaped my teaching and my students' learning. The literacy model pushes me to grow every single day which means I'm exhausted every single day. :) Teaching is NOT an easy job. We need to work together! Literacy is SO important in our room; in fact, I doubt I'll ever post anything that DOESN'T have to do with literacy in some way. I hope you find some of my 'stuff' rejuvenates your teaching and helps to heighten what your kids are able to do. You'll also notice that in each of my product descriptions, I linked to a page on my classroom blog where I provide a narrative (with pictures) of my lessons and/or how many of my products are used in my own classroom. Hopefully the blog postings and pictures will help you get a better visual for how some of my products might fit into your classroom, and you can picture your own students doing what mine do! Visit our blog regularly and if there is anything you see that you want, let me know, and I'll post it! Our Classroom Blog: http://www.lifein4B.blogspot.com

MY TEACHING STYLE

I would hope my students would tell you that I'm happy, respectful, and fun, with super high expectations of both my students and myself. And on a different note, they would also tell you I'm a huge word nerd, and really, I'm ok with that. :)
