I've been teaching Elementary Physical Education 20 yrs.
My teaching style can be characterized as a cross-curricular approach. I’m always looking for ways to help the students make connections between physical education and the common core concepts. My goal is that the students learn how to perform skills correctly, therefore, we focus on mechanics first, then lead-up games/activities. I also know students need opportunities to demonstrate leadership, be creative and have a chance for exploration in order to strengthen problem -solving skills. These aspects are built into my units as much as possible.
I completed my National Boards Teacher Certification in 2003 and renewed my Boards in 2012. I was selected as Teacher of the Year by my peers at 2 different schools during my teaching career. I have been a presenter and a facilitator in my county for various workshops. I was also selected to work on unpacking and organizing the new curriculum as it was rolled out in my county.
I received my BA in Physical Education from Greensboro College in 1993 and my Masters in Science from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro 2001.
