Taught at a low income high school for seven years before taking a leave of absence due to cancer battle. The majority of my students were not interested in school and/or hated school. I spent a lot of time researching teaching methods that would engage my students in the learning process. Learning centers was the answer. My students loved doing centers and they were finally engaged in the learning process.
Learning Centers using small groups. Each center is assigned a different activity, students rotate to another center every 20 minutes.
Nominated for Teacher of the Year. Taught Professional Development classes on Learning Centers for the Secondary Classroom.
Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education and English. Masters Degree in Library Sciences.
In 2012, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The chemo and radiation were brutal, and the chemo damaged my heart. I am unable to work in the classroom at this time, but my goal is to eventually go back to teaching. I am 49 years old, and too young to retire. I miss my students, and I miss teaching. In the meantime, I am focusing on getting well, and spending time with my two grandsons.
