This is my 5th year in a K-5 school library. My past experiences include early education settings and academic libraries.
I believe the library is the learning hub of a school. I teach students to access and evaluate information through exploration and inquiry.
A shining moment: During free check out time, two 5th grade students were browsing for books. I hear, "I wonder where..." and the other student suggested he check the catalog. "Oh yeah, I can look that up!" They then proceeded to help each other search, record the title, and locate the item. Those location and access lessons are clearly paying off!
Wheelock College: B.S. in Human Development with a focus in Psychology; minors in Juvenile Justice and Youth Advocacy; History. Simmons College: M.S in Library and Information Science, School Library Teacher Program.
Last spring, we welcomed our second daughter into our family. When I'm not taking care of my girls or teaching my students, you can usually find me reading (surprise, surprise!), knitting, or doing some other crafty activity.
