I am in my 3rd year of teaching in Louisville, Kentucky. This year my team is experimenting with departmentalizing and I will be teaching Math.
I am a relatively new teacher. During my MAT program I had the benefit of learning various strategies for instructing students. I currently work in a school that has a variety of students from different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. In my first few years I have adopted a "back to basics" approach in my teaching. While I still incorporate chants, investigative learning and LOTS of technology my main focus is on student success in mastery of basic skills through repetition and practice. I have noticed that combining new and old strategies helped my students grow significantly throughout the school year, specifically in Math. I have created my Teachers Pay Teachers store to share with intermediate teachers some of the worksheets I have created to ensure that my students have the proper skills and practice to achieve standard mastery.
