I have taught 15 years, happily all of them in kindergarten! The past four years I have been teaching the English component in our district's dual language program. I have a teaching partner who teaches the Spanish component; together we have around 36 students. It always amazes me to see how quickly young children learn language!
I feel that engagement is key! I want my students to be excited to learn. I try to keep activities learner-centered and engaging, so students want to learn. I also try to employ kinesthetic learning as much as possible for the little ones. Our day is very fast-paced, so I need students to be as focused as possible during their work activities.
I have been a curriculum writing for our district for many years. It's been an honor, but it has also helped me be a better teacher by focusing on the standards and skimming away things I taught that were extraneous. I'm better prepared to help students learn the content with deeper meaning and focus.
I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I added to my degree at Texas Woman's University to earn my teaching certificate in Texas. I added my ESL certification a few years later.
I am certified in Early Childhood through 4th grade in Texas, and I am ESL certified.
