TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Nineteen years teaching high school chemistry in Pittsburgh Public Schools. Classes taught - AP Chemistry 2, PSP(Scholars) Chemistry 2, CAS(Gifted) Chemistry 1, PSP (Scholars) Chemistry 1, Physical Science, General Science and College in the Classroom with the University of Pittsburgh. Science Curriculum Coordinator for the Math/Science partnership - Allegheny County Intermediate Unit. 2003-2006

MY TEACHING STYLE

Kevin Kelly’s educational style was collaborative. He regularly worked with other science teachers and teachers of other disciplines to engage his students. He was a big proponent of Chemistry in the Community as a way to show his students the relevance of science in real world applications. For four years Kevin was a leader in an Arts Collaborative program that linked the Oliver High School chemistry curriculum with a local Pittsburgh Art Center to teach students Chemistry in relation to Ceramics and Photography. He tried to engage students in a variety of learning styles, and so his classes were a mix of lectures and labs with an abundance of time spent reviewing material through worksheets and quizzes.
