I have been teaching for six years and have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade in low-income communities in three of New York City's five boroughs. I am currently a 6th Grade ELA Teacher.
I firmly believe in the Responsive Classroom model. The first six weeks of every school year are spent creating a warm, nurturing learning environment where scholars take ownership of their learning and accountability for their actions. On any given day, you may find my scholars working in pairs or in small groups to complete a task or solve a problem cooperatively. The community of learning we've created together allows scholars to take risks, which allows learning to be the never-ending process I believe it is intended to be. Every aspect of my teaching embodies a simple phrase my scholars shout with delight: "It's not good, it's not okay, it's EXCELLENCE, every day!" Together, we celebrate our strengths and correct our mistakes as we strive to be our best possible selves, every day.
