Fangcaodi International School | Head of International Office | 2014 - present. Responsibilities as lead teacher and manager of the international department’s foreign office include following British curriculum textbooks, creating and evaluating lesson plans, evaluating students’ and teachers’ progress throughout the year, giving teacher training and writing progress reports and exams. Beijing International Educational Exchange (BIEE) | Trainer | Reference | 2017. The ministry of education observed my teaching. My lesson will serve as a reference for the standardized ESL teaching frameworks that are being developed. Leading English | Teacher Trainer | 2016. Large groups of up to 40 English teachers were taught various aspects of TKT. The course covered classroom management, task variation, learning styles, ESL theory and knowledge and numerous aspects of planning and executing lessons. New Garden International Kindergarten | Teacher | 2012-2014. Daily lesson plans were designed a month in advance. The children were aged between 3 and 6 years old and classes had up to 24 children in. It was a great opportunity to refine modelling skills and hone instructional language. Private Tutoring / Freelance | 2012 - present. I have taught students from between 2 and 70 years old. I have taught phonics, reading, writing, drama, maths, science, TOEFL, IELTS, visa interview preparation, international school entry preparation and many other areas. I have also designed STEM and drama camps. I am able to create professional materials and engaging teaching procedures for most abilities and audiences.
I believe in doing what you teach. I learn everyday and ask my students to do the same. Along with teaching the skills and systems of the english language, i feel it is important to also teach various learning strategies (metacognitive, cognitive, social/affective) through different teaching approaches and methodolgies. For example learning strategies are abundant in cooperative learning (CL) teaching. I spend a lot of time finding ways to provide motivation to fuel the use of these strategies and develop self-regulation and ultimately autonomy in the learners. The responsibility to learn is on the learner, but the repsonsibility of wanting and knowing how to learn is on the teacher.
