I am currently a 4th/5th grade self contained teacher in a public modified montessori school. I have taught middle school math for 5 years. Prior to this I was a long term sub in a 4th grade classroom. Prior to that, I worked as a dramaturge for a theater. I edited plays for historical value!
I am a big proponent of hands on, inquiry based learning. I also agree with an idea of students need to take the time that THEY need to master a skill, not when the "class," teacher, principal or district says that they are ready to move on. I try to make products that are exciting, fun and most of all engaging. If my students are not engaged then they are not learning. It does not matter how good the lesson is!
Was nominated for Minnesota Teacher of the Year through Hamline University and Cities 97. I was a 2nd runner up in the competition.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Catherine University and am in grad school for Curriculum and Design with emphasizes on STEM education and ethics, justice and equity.
I teach in a low income, very diverse, inner city school with little to no funding. I do not have text books. We do have technology because I have written grants for them. Our district is 1:1 ipads.
