I am currently a 6th-grade self-contained elementary, general education teacher in a public school. I have taught middle school math and social studies, as well as 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade for 15 years.
I am a big proponent of hands on, inquiry based learning. I also agree with an idea of students need to take the time that THEY need to master a skill, not when the "class," teacher, principal or district says that they are ready to move on. I try to make products that are exciting, fun and most of all engaging. If my students are not engaged then they are not learning. It does not matter how good the lesson is!
Was nominated for Minnesota Teacher of the Year through Hamline University and Cities 97. I was a 2nd runner up in the competition.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Catherine University and grad school for Curriculum and Design with emphasis on STEM education and ethics, justice, and equity from Hamline University.
I teach in a low-income, very diverse, inner-city school with little to no funding. I do not have textbooks. Our district is 1:1 pads.
