Taught drawing as a participant of CORAL Grant. Taught drawing at southern California charter school. In 2006, participated in development of graduate course in brain science discoveries, spatial reasoning, and academic achievement. My twin passions - emergent then, remain: children's formation and improvement in cognitive development. "Drawing with Darwin" is simply the next chapter in this work. It would not be viable without Teachers Pay Teachers.
"No More Cat Cows!" After "Art Is at the Heart of Smart," this is my second most important principle. By that I mean drawing an animal meant to be a cow, but it looks more like a cat. This has resulted in many beginners to believe they cannot draw. Beginners in music training have it much easier. Their first experiences in music can be disasters but they are disasters which fade away. Sour notes they make are gone. When I worked out the fine points in the drawing program, I knew these experiences had to go. This course is structured to prevent cat cows. This keeps the occurrences of "fight" or "flight" reactions from happening. The letters I have received from educators mention that the majority of the students leave delighted, liking their own work and feeling like artists. Their critical thinking is improved.

As additional background, I want to relate how our little family's academic careers developed a strong tie to the graphic arts. The help that this provided in accommodating the processing weaknesses with which we had to work is unquestionably deserving of acknowledgement here. Early on the role of achievement verification by a "fill" the dot system was set a side until the age of twelve. I was lucky to have exposure to a Waldorf School. This gave me the courage to continue the freedom of home school for the pre-twelveyears. Our kids, now adults, are now splendid adults.
