TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The 2016-2017 school year will mark my 18th year teaching. I've taught K, 1, 2, 4/5, and have been a reading interventionist before receiving my library endorsement 12 years ago. I love to help my eager readers in the library find a book that will appeal to their interests, tastes, and reading abilities! The students in my building truly LOVE to come to the library for library learning activities; which can include library skills, literacy activities, social studies, science, etc. They also come to read, create art, and use digital learning activities.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style supports group learning and hands-on activities. My students enjoy unit projects that we complete in multiple subject areas. I'm also a stickler with classroom management, which can be tricky when you only see a class once a week. I work hard with my students over the years to develop appropriate behavior skills to use in school, the community, and in life.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My students and teachers think I'm the best!! I write many grants a year to supplement our library budget. I have received grants from Boeing, Highline Schools Foundation, Southwest King School Retirees' Association, and Donors Choose.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A. Elementary Education, K-8 Social Studies Endorsement, K-12 Learning Resources Endorsement, M.S. Teacher Leadership

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

When I'm not planning lessons or reading, I love to spend time working in the garden, traveling, quilting, and just being with my husband.
