I have been teaching since 2001. I started out teaching 5th grade and moved to elementary special education. I currently teach resource and inclusion students grades K-5 at a low SES school in Texas. My resource students are working at least one grade level below their current grade level; most are 2 or more years behind. Students come to my classroom for half their scheduled class time to work on skills they are missing and stay in the general education classroom for the other half of the block to get exposure to the general education curriculum. My inclusion students are served in the classroom or through tutorials by me and instructional aides throughout the day.
I believe that students learn best when they are involved in their learning. Students need hands on approaches in the classroom, so I teach with manipulatives, movement, individual whiteboards, and I am always looking for new ways to create understanding on old concepts.

I graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with my Bachelor's Degree in education in 2001 and from Grand Canyon University online with my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction in 2007. I attend several workshops and teacher training oppoortunities each year to learn new things.
