I have been teaching for almost 10 years. This year, I have taken a leave of absence due to giving birth to my son 3 months premature. While I am staying home with him, I have decided to share my resources that I have created over the years in teaching students to expand their thinking when reading. I have taught both rural and inner city, public schools and a charter school. I taught Kindergarten for 4 years, Title I and Response to Intervention for grades K-3, Fifth grade, and Sixth Grade. I am licensed K-6 along with being a Reading Specialist.
I love to watch students fall in love with reading and making a personal connection to whatever they are reading...a book, magazine, blog, etc. My students work in cooperative learning groups every day. In these groups, students learn together and teach each other, then will teach the rest of their classmates. I view my role as a teacher to guide them in finding their resources to learn and support them in their learning. My teaching is driven by my students' interest, data collected, and the common core standards. I use Google Documents for Education to collaborate with teachers, students, and parents along with keep my data up to date and accessible.
