I have been teaching for 6 years and absolutely love what I do. I teach in an autism cluster program which means I have students in multiple grade levels and of varying ability levels. I enjoy the challenge of working with students with special needs. In addition, I have recently completed by Master's degree in ESE and received my board certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
I utilize many evidence-based behavioral practices for teaching academics and social skills. I have researched self-monitoring extensively and I believe it is one of the most important skills we can help students develop. Many of my students are involved in self-monitoring interventions tailored to their individual needs. In addition to self-monitoring, I am also a big proponent of strategy instruction. Most of my students have difficulty utilizing strategies they have learned while working independently. Therefore, I have developed some unique strategies my students can keep in their "toolbox" and use throughout the school day.
I recently completed a Master's thesis titled "Using WatchMinder to Increase the On-Task Behavior of Students with ASD." My work is now published in the Journal for Autism and Developmental Disabilities and I have presented the results of my research at various statewide conferences including Florida CEC, CARD, and ABAI.
