TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Currently, I am an itinerant special ed teacher serving students aged birth to 21 with orthopedic impairments in 8+ school districts. Previously, I taught self-contained/special day class and/or resource K-12, and general ed third grade. I have implemented MANY models of special ed services. I've also taught Extended School Year in a medically fragile moderate/severe class at a county center-based site.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to think of myself as an academic coach: training and equipping, then cheering on my students as they meet their goals. "Love is a better teacher than duty." -Albert Einstein

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

*** I have been honored to be the "Teacher of the Year" at my school and district finalist twice: at both the high school and elementary levels.

*** My podcast, "Help for Special Educators" has been heard in over 70 countries!

*** I have also enjoyed being a master teacher for student teachers from Fresno State Unversity, as well as a mentor for colleagues as they earn additional credentials or begin teaching special ed.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

DEGREES: M.A. Special Education, B.A. Liberal Studies.
CALIFORNIA CREDENTIALS:
Special Ed:
Mild/Moderate Disabilities (Preschool-12), Orthopedic Impairment Authorization (Birth-21), Autism Authorization, Resource Specialist Certificate. General Ed: Multiple Subjects (K-6), CLAD (Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development).
