TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 27 years. During that time I have taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade, as well as spending five years as an academic intervention specialist. I also love working with teachers at the graduate level. Being a teacher facilitator at Millersville University's annual Teacher's Writing Institute was always a highlight for me. Currently I teach a graduate education course for Neuman University/Thom Stecher Associates called "Writing to Heal, Empower, and Create Community." Writing is such an important way to not only teach academics, but to nurture a student's soul. My elementary school is involved in the Leader in Me process. This has been an exciting adventure for me as an educator and for our staff. In this day and age of testing and monitoring, it helps us to stay focused on what is important.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want every child to believe that for the 9 months they are with me, besides my family, they are the most important people in my life. I think every child can foster leadership skills. Each child is so unique, with both gifts and challenges. I will never say, "Now I have seen it all," because my students each year teach me how individual they are. I am a life-long learner who enjoys trying new ideas. My colleagues tease me about being a curriculum nerd. I love to create and share lessons and materials. When working with adult learners, I know that they are like me. They still need movement and their minds still crave novelty. Who wants to be in a lecture-only classroom? If we are going to learn, we need to be actively engaged. As long as I can love, laugh, and create, I know I still belong in teaching.
