I have been teaching for ten years and have taught grades K,1,2,3, 4 and 6. I have been teaching fourth grade for two years now, and I hope to stay at this grade level for years to come.
My school uses Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Reading and Writing. I found this a lot more challenging to use than a basal curriculum, which I had been accustomed to using. After three years, I feel like I finally have the workshop method down pretty well. I found that writing good plans with daily objectives is key to making this curriculum work well. I further found that I have to implement grammar and vocabulary on my own because the Units of Study just don't include it. My reading and writing blocks are broken into periods of time that allow for all of this to take place.

BS in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University. I've given thought to getting a Masters in Reading or Curriculum and Instruction, however, it's currently on the back burner.
