I have invested twenty years teaching secondary English and twelve years directing a reputable study abroad program. I am a Global Education Ambassador, mentoring teachers interested in student educational travel. I have taken well over three hundred student learners to nine countries since 2006. At my current school, I serve as the English department chair, a Mock Trial faculty advisor, the director of the England Study Abroad program, an ACT/SAT tutor, and a Positive Deviant (a committee of teachers committed to taking risks and stretching pedagogical norms to increase student learning through curiosity). I have taught ninth through twelfth-grade English, drama, playwriting, literary magazine, and creative writing primarily in private, Christian schools. I am a certified AP English Literature instructor and have articles and photography published in books and magazines. Mount Paran Christian School, Kennesaw, GA, '04-present; North Cobb Christian School, Acworth, GA, '00-'03; Evangel Christian Academy, Baltimore, MD, '99-'00 Teen Learning Center, Cleveland, TN, '98-'99
My relationship with students is my classroom management technique. I try to be unpredictable, offering a variety of spacial, experiential, technological, and educational tactics to engage the full range of diverse interests and abilities. I try to balance traditional, tried-and-true methodology with innovation for student-centered durable learning and skill development. I aim to inspire and to create curiosity so that students become life-long learners, avid readers, and confident communicators.
