I am a literacy specialist currently working in schools to assist teachers in grades K to 8 with English Language Arts. I spend about half of my time doing out-of-class training and the other half implementing lessons in the classrooms. Prior to my consulting work, I worked at the state level by facilitating professional development that introduced teachers to the Common Core State Standards. Additionally at the state level I created modules to help teachers dig deeper into the major shifts of the Common Core, such as: text complexity, general academic vocabulary, close reading, and argument writing. Before working at the state level, I was a reading teacher and elementary classroom teacher.
I absolutely love what I do, and I love sharing my learning with others; both adults and children! I believe in the gradual release of responsibility to teach students and prepare them for independence.
Yet to be added
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Spanish. Additionally, I hold a Master's Degree in Literacy K-12.
I enjoy reading (of course! :)), photography, volunteering at my children's school, and going to the beach in the summer.
