I have been teaching for 25 years in a variety of both public and private settings, from urban low income to rural affluent. I have worked with a wide range of populations and have always achieved great things with kids by pushing them to reach their potential, setting the bar as high as possible, and by believing in each child's unique gifts. I currently lead a small team of English teachers in one of the highest performing school districts in the state of New Jersey, challenging my colleagues through scholarship, reflection, and ongoing professional development.
I emphasize a student centered classroom and set high expectations for individual responsibility and achievement. I foster collaboration through team building and partner talk, and encourage meaningful dialogue with my students by developing critical thinking skills, deep comprehension, autonomy and evidence based discussion. Reading and writing is the source and summit of all learning. I bring a passion for literacy to every day, and a belief that every child can learn.
