My background includes teaching various grades and levels. At the beginning of my teaching career, I worked as a high school English teacher. I was so surprised to find that many of my students struggled with reading the grade-level content. This prompted me to go back to school to become a certified reading specialist. I have worked as a literacy teacher and reading interventionist for the past several years and have training in Orton-Gillingham methodology. I spend each day teaching children to read and comprehend text using a research-based approach, and I am so grateful for my work. Ultimately, my goal is to instill in my students a genuine love for reading in order to create lifelong readers. I also serve as an and Assistant Professor and SME (Subject Matter Expert) of Children's Literature at a university in Virginia.
My teaching style is student-centered, multisensory, and aligns with the Science of Reading.
