I am a Secondary/High School teacher in South Carolina. This is my third year in the profession, and I'm looking forward to many more.
I firmly believe in experiential and problem-based learning. I don't lecture or use PowerPoints. Everything we do in class supports overarching goals toward increasing literacy, supporting fluency, creating/fostering translatable skills, and building confidence in reading and writing. As a teacher, I see my job as creating supports for students and creating a safe space to attempt (and sometimes fail) difficult concepts and tasks with blocked time for repetition--with the understanding that practice makes permanent. I strongly encourage that my students engage in reflective practice.
