TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught high school for three years before I decided to go back to school for my Doctorate in Education. I taught Senior Government, World History and AP World History. While working on my EDD, I have been substituting Pre-K through 12, so I am keeping my feet wet in what is going on in the classrooms. I have my Masters in Educational Studies. I am a Specialist in Education (Curriculum Design and Instruction)

MY TEACHING STYLE

Teaching history unfortunately means there will be a lecture here and there. With that being said, my lectures have many opportunities for both the teacher and students to become engaged in the lecture. Brain-breaks, focus questions, vocabulary sections, are just a few spots in the lectures that allow the students to take a moment and think about what has just been taught and take time to discuss. This is also an informal assessment for the instructor. I love having the students be the teacher. Letting them research and present the information to the class gives them ownership over the material. Incorporating Art, music, and literature, in lessons to help them understand less concrete concepts is also one of my favorite things to do. Essay writing and making connections in AP World History is very important. Students write three types of essays in the course and work on making broad connections in various aspects of life. This course comes with a lot of reading and writing. Students need to be prepared. I offer study material and help sheets that help students prepare for the writing portion of the test and also make the connections between the changes over time.
